Not all eye exams are alike. The best way to describe the different types of exam eyes provided at our office is to categorize them either as vision or medical eye care.

Vision Exams

The purpose of vision services is mainly to determine a prescription for glasses. Vision exams are not equipped to deal with complex medical conditions and/or diagnoses. It does allow for screenings of conditions. Once the conditions have been identified, then a medically-oriented eye exam is necessary to further evaluate and manage them.

Medical Eye Exams

If you present with complaints of a condition that requires medical testing and decision-making, we will furnish you with a medical-level eye exam.

Problems or complaints that MAY be attributable to a medical condition are

  • new or sudden blurry vision
  • eye pain or redness
  • new onset flashes of light or floaters
  • loss of vision
  • dry or itchy eyes
  • eye strain
  • double vision

Systemic health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, systemic lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis may also require a medical eye exam.
